While I agree that most municipal water in our country is safe for drinking, I also think we should all be aware that it might not be. I am 30 yrs old, and spent the first 5 yrs of my life in Jacksonville, NC on a marine base. Ten years ago my mother received a survey in the mail informing her that our drinking water at the time was contaminated with dry-cleaning chemicals. At 5 yrs old my family moved back to Ohio, where I am from. In 2005, it was discovered by the EPA that a byproduct of teflon, manufactured by Dupont, called C8 (which the EPA had just found out existed) had contaminated our drinking water in Ohio, which we got from the Ohio River. Many neighboring communities in WV were affected as well. They had been dumping this into the Ohio RIver since the '50s. A massive study funded by Dupont has since revealed C8 is a carcinogen. I grew up on this water, as did my mother and my husband. Nobody knew C8 even existed until a few years ago. How many other chemicals out there do we not test for because we don't know they exist yet?

The EPA says our drinking water is safe. They aiso said the air was safe to breathe in NY after 9-11. The air was full of asbestos and many people have died because of this. Why should anyone believe them after that. None of your cheap filters will remove the poisons that are put into our water like flouride. which usually is a waste product from industry that contains many poisons. If you really care and are not just trying to scare us out of our money the use your power to STOP these criminals from runing our water.

I've used Brita quite a bit, but the tap water (even after being filtered) tastes so bad I can't stand to drink it & I still have 2 filters I haven't used. I tried mixing the filtered water with bottled water & I tried keeping the Brita in the refrigerator, but I still couldn't drink the water because of the taste. Why does the bottled water taste so much better? (no bleach taste ever) Any suggestions? (Plain water is preferable over sweetened or flavored.)
