This reminds me of the writings of Thoreau when he lived in a small house on the shore of Walden pond. Downsizing is a great idea in our overly consuming society. This could solve a lot of affordable housing problems, especially for singles. We could even have \"small house subdivisions\". Let's see more articles on this!

I can vision homes of the future consisting of one larger home, with full bath and laundry area, and basement for possible storms. Then smaller homes built on the same lot for privacy, and sleeping ,It would be similar to a camp ground with a club house. I think its a great idea!
I'm quilty like most Americans about accumulating posessions we don't really need.

We couldn't agree more! We are fortunate to own a 600 sq. ft. lake cabin retreat close to Monmouth, IL. We've truly enjoyed the \" simple living\" concept while there on weekends and throughout the year.. whenever we can get away.
The greatroom includes our living, dining, kitchen areas with extra sleeping for guests or afternoon naps. We have a comfy bedroom and bath. With this small structure, we truly maximize the enjoyment of our time there since it requires a minimum of maintenance.
The many windows and outdoor decks allow outdoor living spaces with wonderful views of the lake. We especially love the boating pleasures we pursue there.
Simple living is a relaxing & freeing adventure! We highly recommend it ....even if only for the weekends!
Guess we could say we experience \"Simple Living\" at its best while there ....and plan to make it our primary residence someday!

I wish I could talk my spouse into this...I totally believe in this concept...More time for the fun things in life, less upkeep and less clutter.

My wife and I live in a 398 square foot park model home and love it. There certainly is enough room and even have space to entertain another couple. It also saves on electricity for heat and cooling. Wish they had spaces for rent like this back in Illinois that is close in to cities without being 20 miles out in the country.

I love the idea! I came back home from Nevada in 1981. I had a suit case and that was it. Now it seems all we do is the up keep on what we own. You never really own anything, you just keep it in good shape for the next guy. You've got the right idea.

Wow. makes a lot of sense. dunno if i could live in such a tiny house. what's up w/ all these 'building codes' ? I thought this was a free country. if you own your land and want to live in a shack-- why not!?
